The direction of the world is the rightful inheritance of the young, for to the young belongs today. We who are middle-aged had yesterday.
— Carlos P. Romulo, The United, 1950

In 1925, Carlos P. Romulo serves as the first editor-in-chief of The Coconut, the student paper of Manila High School.

He took on his first job, while still in high school, as a cub reporter for The Manila Times, assigned to the Senate.

In college he became editor-in-chief of the UP student paper, College Folio, reviving it as Varsity News.

He graduated from UP with a bachelor’s degree in 1918. By this time he was already working as an assistant editor on the staff of Senator Manuel Quezon’s newspaper, The Citizen.
