Journalists may type out stories in a fleeting moment, but oftentimes something you write will make an imprint on a reader’s soul and he’ll carry that around with him for the rest of his life. That is the awesome responsibility of the journalist.
— Carlos P. Romulo, 1952

In 1925, Carlos P. Romulo serves as the first editor-in-chief of The Coconut, the student paper of Manila High School.

He took on his first job, while still in high school, as a cub reporter for The Manila Times, assigned to the Senate.

In college he became editor-in-chief of the UP student paper, College Folio, reviving it as Varsity News.

He graduated from UP with a bachelor’s degree in 1918. By this time he was already working as an assistant editor on the staff of Senator Manuel Quezon’s newspaper, The Citizen.
