Truman, 1952

Carlos P. Romulo was our new Philippine ambassador to the United States when he presented President Harry S. Truman with an elaborately carved table of Philippine mahogany for use in the reception room leading to the presidential office in the White House. The Philippines had gifted a similar table to President Roosevelt early in his career, probably in the 1930s, and it had been a favorite place for hats and coats of callers at that office. May 9, 1952.
